Cross compiling (Win32Compile) fuzzy Wiki

Postby gepebril » 30 Jun 2013 12:51

Hi there,

I'm trying to compile latest VLC for my Windows 7 Home edition. I want to compile the 32bits version and I'm using VMWare with Ubuntu 12.04 srv 32 bits and Mingw-64 toolchain. I have found the following wiki: http://wiki.videolan.org/Win32Compile
So from that information I conclude I have to follow the i686-w64-mingw32 path.
Than I read this, under 'Fix your contrib path'
If your Mingw prefix is not i586-mingw32msvc (you are NOT on Debian or Ubuntu), create a symlink to contribs:
What do the author trying to say? And does this imply to my situation, and if so in what way?

And a little further, he/she wrote:
Use the standard configuration:
$ ../extras/package/win32/configure.sh --host=i586-mingw32msvc
NB: use YOUR Xcompiling prefix here, like i486-mingw32
Does this mean I have to use:

Code: Select all

../extras/package/win32/configure.sh --host=i686-mingw32msvc
And where does i486-mingw32 come from, as they only mention: i686-w64-mingw32 x86_64-w64-mingw32 and i586-mingw32msvc

Thanks in advance,

Albert

Dear Jean-Baptiste Kempf,

Thank you for your answer.
So the sentence : '(you are NOT on Debian or Ubuntu)' don't apply to me.

Yours sincerely,

Albert
