Audio only after recent Windows update?

Postby hakavon » 03 Jun 2013 00:33

My VLC player stopped showing video last night. Audio only.

Seems there was a Windows update just before that.

I'd tried to uninstall and reinstall, but the new installation (same version...I saved the install file) still had no video.

I used system restore and went back two weeks. Boom! Everything was working again.

Now I'm worried about the automatic update getting installed again. Has anyone seen the same problem over the last few days? (I'm running Windows XP.)

If it happens again you can:

Try another video output module:

And/or disable/enable GPU acceleration:
http://wiki.videolan.org/WindowsFAQ-2.0 ... age_errors

You can also try to enable or disable some video options such as Overlay and/or Hardware YUV -> RGB conversions.

For testing purposes you may try to disable the power management settings (EPU Engine) of your ASUS motherboard, if you are using one.
