Caching value

Postby gmjh » 24 Mar 2013 12:25

Trying to find where this is on 2.0.5. All references I've read point to somewhere under Input/Codecs that just doesn't exist. I have only found the option to change the latency to High (which may have the same result) Where is 'caching value' on the 2.0.5 version (and why make it so hard to find?) Thanks very much.

I reiterate this question: but for VLC media player 2.0.8 Twoflower.

Earlier advice for older versions suggests that Tools>Preferences>select radio button = all>Input/Codecs>Access modules>File should offer a menu to set the default value for "Caching": that is no longer the case.

I am playing Blu Ray films under Windows XP SP3 on a Pioneer BDC-S02 (purportedly the equivalent of a Pioneer BDC-202) and 20-25 minutes into the BD I am getting lagging and hesitation. VLC paints a very interesting picture on the time and progress bar which suggests that "pausing" might help - it does not.

By restarting and goosing the "Cache" value in the Media>Open Disk>select up and down push menu = Caching to a value of 600 ms, I have gained an immediate improvement. But the lagging and hesitation problem is now reasserting itself about 50 minutes into the Blu Ray film [Hart's War with Bruce Willis and Colin Farrell).

So M. Jean Baptiste Kempfe: Qu'èst -ce qui se passe. Je vous en prie: au secours! Nous nous noyons. Gurgle gurgle gurgle.

These guys at VLC are so so cool: Pioneer and Microsoft did everything in their power to try and made sure that I'd never watch a BD Blu Ray on my Windows XP Computer.
