Video Keeps Stopping Randomly

Postby gmore70 » 07 Mar 2013 01:44

Hi Anyone and Everyone,

My apologies for not being a programmer. I did look through the documentation...and for someone like me...well it goes right over my head.

Here is my issue:
I have a GoPro 3 Silver connected to my computer via the GoPro's Wi-Fi, I can then stream - using VLC - a live video and audio feed from the camera (well in truth there is a 3 second delay).
BUT! at Random Intervals - could be 2 seconds apart or 5 minutes a part, the video and audio will stop working in VLC. I then press play and it works again.

Okay for the details:
1. In VLC, I go to the Media dropdown, then select Open Network Stream, I then type in the "Network enter in a Network Url" field the location on the Wifi Network of live feed file for the GoPro, which is "http://10.5.5.9:8080/live/amba.m3u8"
2. I then press play...and it works perfectly.
3. The video feed will randomly stop working - shows traffic cone on screen - I instantly go back and do the same as above and its working. Every time I press play, the video feed comes back on instantly.
4. As you can tell by the network address the file type is a m3u8.

I have done the following trouble shooting:
1. Confirmed the wifi signal is strong. The video feed will stop at 100% Wifi strength or 80%...no difference.
2. Using the GoPro App on my Android phone, I can confirm the video feed is still live from the GoPro. Meaning, when VLC shows the traffic cone, but the Android App is still showing a perfect Video Feed.
3. When the feed stops, I can still access the motherboard of the camera via its HTML page on port 8080. Example, I can still navigate, refresh and see - 10.5.5.9:8080 - perfectly when the video feed stops in VLC.

I am using a Windows 7 Computer running in Good Order and Health.
I can watch other types of videos on VLC without this issue.

In my simple mind, I was looking for a "keep alive" options or script. Meaning, VLC will automatically try to "play" the feed when it stops. Instead of me pressing play.

Thank you in advance to whoever is willing to give up some of their time and assisted me.

I am sure you can see why this kind of thing would be useful to the general public - not just me. Using a low cost, consumer grade, water and shock proof camera in a live streaming manner has a lot of very positive implications.

Try the http-reconnect option.

Sorry to be a noob, but how does a non-programmer such as myself do this...I am pretty good at following instructions, so if you have the time...can you please please send me the how...or a link to the how.

Sorry to be a dummy.

Thanks.
