VLC taking over MP3 playing

Postby aairon » 22 Dec 2012 08:19

When I setup vlc on the install I deselected ALL Audio file associations for a test and as a last resort.
I then confirmed that the winamp file associations for MP3 and OOG where selected.
If I remove VLC completely from my system these files play in winamp with no issues.
I also told VLC upon install to delete cache, yet VLC insists on taking over ALL Audio file types.
Any ideas?

EDIT:
I have found that it's only taking over the incoming streaming MP3/M3U Files, normal MP3 files on the hard drive are fine,
Can I stop it from reacting to all incoming streaming audio files?
At one point I thought I saw a setting relating to that in preferences but I looked long and hard and can't find it.
Thanks in advance for any clues.

SOLVED!
I found that I simply needed to remove VLC once again and this time when reinstalling I also unchecked "m3u" and "m3u8" (streaming pointers?) file associations.
after VLC is installed it seems like there is little use for the change association button within VLC preferences as everything for VLC is grayed out, I'm sure I'm missing something about that logic.
