Windows 8, Chrome, auto streaming

Running Windows 8 and Chrome Browser, mpgs, wmvs, etc, only play streaming in the browser window instead of opening the VLC player. It works correctly in IE, but I cant find where to make it work in Chromes settings? I've searched here and found something about a browser plug-in to fix this but can't find the plug-in. Any help would be appreciated.

Also, how do i set the defaults, so vlc is the default for media such as mpg, wmv, etc?
