Firstly I would like to say how much I love this program I use this all the time over Windows Media Player however I feel it lacks many useful video enhancements.
De-interlacing - is too basic it needs bob, weaver, or single field I've always found blending frames for certain clips blurry which is why I would prefer dropping one of the interlacing fields.
Temporal noise filter - this is a technique used to remove fluctuations in pixel colour I find it greatly reduces the noise patterns exhibited from analogue video capture like VHS or TV Cards (composite / S-Video).
Not only does it improve the viewing experience it also helps to increase the image quality for fixed bit rate video encoding / streaming.
Smart Brightness - provide AGC to lighten up very dark scenes in videos and maybe reduce the brightness of bright video scenes.
Sharpness should be applied after de-interlacing not before - when applying sharpness to interlaced video while de-interlaced "blend" the sharpness feature seems to over enhance the interlaced lines making de-interlacing ineffective and ugly.
RGB control or white balancing for video clips - indoor video footage usually appears reddish / lacking in blue or maybe a video clip has too much green it would be great to be able to balance this back without having to resort to video editing software.
Smooth blocky video - squares can appear because video bit rate is too low or too complex within a given bit rate target. It would be nice if VLC could detect these areas and smooth them out. I have a plugin for VirtualDub that does just that however implementing something in real time would be amazing.
Settings presets - any colour corrections or enhancements would be useful if saved / loaded as presets and perhaps individual video clips could have their own presets.
A-B mode - looping a certain portion of video.
