Video black is too bright

Postby xerces8 » 10 Jun 2012 01:25

Hi!

I noticed that black in a playing movie (night scene, played in full screen, so I have black bars above and below the video) is too bright.
It is correct when playing with Windows Media Player.

It appears to be related to the 0-255 vs 16-235 range issue.(see this google search result: http://danbeahm.blogspot.com/2011/01/fi ... r-vlc.html )

If I try the hint from that page (I have an nVidia card) then the image in VLC is OK, but in WMP now is wrong.

Is this a known issue?
How to find out if it is a driver problem, video file problem (of this particular file) or VLC issue?

I use VLC 2.0.1 on Windows 7 64 bit.
GPU is an nVidia 8800GT, driver versio 301.42.
