I've recently (say over the past 4 or 5 months) been having issues with audio skipping in VLC. The video continues playing just fine, but every 10 seconds or so, the audio goes silent for about a second or two. Based on my testing, this seems to happen with all audio/video codecs, and with files that play perfectly in other players. I've played around with buffering time, and various other settings (output modules, HQ audio resampling, etc) but nothing seems to change the problem. It still happens when nothing else on the system is running, so it's not a resource issue.
I get the following debug messages continually while playing the files though I'm not sure what they mean:
Code: Select all
main warning: audio output out of sync, adjusting dates (-40869 us)
main warning: not synchronized (-40869 us), resampling
main warning: buffer too early (-40828), down-sampling
main warning: timing screwed, stopping resampling
main debug: audio output is starving (-1470842), playing silence
VLC 2.0.1
Windows XP Home SP3
Intel Q9550, 4GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
EDIT
I've never used VLC to play audio files, so I didn't notice this until literally just now, but audio files seem to have the exact same problem.
