Maybe Screensaver is the wrong word - the screen switches off after a short (optional) animation.
I'm not an android crack, but I have the feeling that the CPU is switched to another clock rate, too.
I have no idea what else happens at this time in Android.
And then the playback looses sync - maybe because of insufficient buffering ?
--> of course, it can be an OS problem ...
what means "playback way too early (-127068) playing silence" and "inserting 5603 zeroes" ?
has the VLC playback thread detected a problem here?

The playback is probably disrupted due to CPU suspension or some kind of Samsung modification.

Is there no chance to configure the timing and buffersize which is used to send packets to the audiodevice ?

thank's anyway ...

I would love to help test out VLC for Android, I'm in the US so I can't get it from the play store. I have a EVGA Tegra Note 7, it has a Tegra 4 and is currently running Android 4.3.

In just the few minutes I've had to play with it, a couple minor things. I haven't tested video. When audio is playing and a call comes it, it doesn't resume afterwards, like most others. The EQ settings are cut off while displayed vertically, but not when it's horizontal. On the lock screen, the pause doesn't work (consistently). It does work if you change the song first, though, with the prev or next buttons. I like the fact that the system-back button actually sends you out of the app. I dislike it as well, because it's unorthodox. Once I get use to it, I'm sure it won't matter. I VERY much like being able to search the directory. The networking doesn't seem to support YouTube yet, and I don't currently have my local server up, so I'll test this later. The widget is very sleek and attractive. I would appreciate if auto-correct was exempt in pretty much the entire app, it gets to be a bother.
It's mostly clean and smooth; no crashing, no problems with the file-layout (file information and album art).

Good work devs :) this is coming along quite nicely! I'll post an update in a week or so on how it's holding up.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3
model # SM-T210R
OS: Android OS, v4.1 (Jelly Bean)
CPU: Dual-core 1.2 GHz
The chip-set only says it has a dual core 1.2Mhz and it says-Marvell PXA986
display:TFT capacitive touchscreen,16M colors 600 x 1024 pixels, 7.0 inches (~170 ppi pixel density)
Memory: (internal) 8/16 GB storage, 1 GB RAM
I have not downloaded a player yet, I was hoping you would instruct me not only which player to get but also where to get it at.
I look forward to participating. I have used VLC on my laptop for years...is there anything that it Won't play! (love it!)

Hi folks,
I've installed v0.1.2 Rev. 31a656e on my Samsung Galaxy S4 and it seems to be running OK with local video and audio clips..

I'd like to use the Android VLC app to monitor a proprietary audio stream using an Icecast format where the URL is in the form of:
http://XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX (IP address of server):8000/PPPPPPPPPP (stream password)

On my desktop version of VLC (which works OK) entering the above info in the "Network stream" URL spawns a dialog box asking for user & password..
After proper credentialing the stream plays fine..

The S4 returns "Unknown Artist-Unknown Album" & stream cannot be played..

Is there a version which would allow me to play the audio stream on my S4 or perhaps I'm doing something wrong in the setup?

Thanks!

Hi,
I encounted an issue with vlc on my galaxy note 3 after the kitkat upgrade the other day.
Vlc does not see any files on the external sd card anymore.
Mx player can but i like vlc better ;)

Apparentely, it's a new kitkat feature as more apps have this issue.
Below is an article i found on this topic.

I hope you can fix this in the new version....
"

If your app reads from external storage...

Your app can not read shared files on the external storage when running on Android 4.4, unless your app has the READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission. That is, files within the directory returned by getExternalStoragePublicDirectory() are no longer accessible without the permission. However, if you need to access only your app-specific directories, provided by getExternalFilesDir(), then you do not need the READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission.
