i am suprised that it can show the sub which can not be shown on the old version.but it is not cleat at all.
vobsub can show it much more clear.

and how can i make the sub remain there not disappear when i play mkvs or ogms?give me some advices please.

it can support wmv3 now.what a good present.
1: vobsubs are often in the original resolution of the DVD, therefore they need to be scaled down to the size of the DivX by the application. VLC's scaler isn't quite fantastic yet.

2: Can you upload a mkv or ogm that has this behaviour to ftp://streams.videolan.org/incoming
We cannot fix this problem without a sample that has this behaviour

3: VLC accesses a part of the OS to playback WMV3. However since it cannot do this for Real, and since there is no opensource implementation of Real, it cannot support Real.
Don't use PMs for support questions.

vlc 0.8-test2
win2k, sp4

As someone already pointed out, the taskbar doesn't go away in
fullscreen-mode anymore. Also when fast-forwarding in a xvid-file
it takes a good 4-5 seconds before the sound get back on sync again, this
problem was not in 0.8-test1 afaik.

hi
i love vlc, dont have any "technical" problems with it, and would surely install only this player if it wasnt for two three features missing which brings me back to my faithful bsplayer :) :

Seeking:
the seek bar is only here for information, it has no seeking use : when you clik on it, it goes several minutes further which is way too far.
I would really like to see a key which give me instant 4* acceleration and goes back to normal speed when i release the key. idem for backward acceleration (but maybe it can be done ? i dont know if we can mod the key combination).

Format d'ecran de la source (dont know how its named in english) :
Thats an option in preferences-general parameter-video. It allows to change to 4:3, 16:9, etc... Thats a great option but again i would like to see a key which can cycle between predefined settings.

In fact, all im asking for is better shortcut keys :D

Please help point me in the right direction.

Running Fedora Core 3 Test 2 and compiled 0.8 test 2 It works very well for my application.

The process though of obtaining all of the libraries and compiling them by hand was rather time consuming and challenging. As you can probably tell, I definitely consider myself a newbie from the *indows world.

I am making an evaluation that an easier way has to exist to accomplish what I did by hand.

Subversion only seems to apply to the VLC code itself and not the dependent libraries.

What am I missing?

Please point me in the right direction.

By the official release of VLC 0.8.0, binary packages of VLC and its libraries for Fedora Core will most likely exist. This will make the installation much easier as you can see on the download page for the current release.
These packages aren't available at the beta-release due to the fact that their creator isn't a core member of the team.

The depedent libraries are not in the VLC-svn, because are not developed by us. So, keeping the imported libraries up-to-date with the versions of their authors would be a huge amount of work, which is not reasonable due to the "contrib-source-compiling-system" which can be found in extras/contrib. It download/compiles/installs (in an independent directory) and updates the needed libraries automatically, but I don't know if it does run under FC.

THNAK YOU for REPLY.
I am looking forward to the improvement on subtitles.
I believe you can do as well as vobsub.

I mean that if I pause the video, the subtitle will soon disappear.I have not enough time to reed the words.I just want to know how to lengthen the time.

[00000238] main dialogs provider error: no dialogs provider module matched "any"
[00000235] skins2 interface error: No suitable dialogs provider found
This means that your wxWindows plugin couldn't be loaded, probably becquse it has unresolved symbols preventing to use it.
To check that, try running 'vlc -I wx -vvv', it should give more information.

Small DIV3 leak?

Postby markfm » 07 Oct 2004 00:46

I chased down the little leak I saw earlier, small growth with time.
I deleted the sfilters, transcode-fps, still had the growth. Switched over to MPEG-TS, UDP, mp4v, my "gold standard". UDP stream was solid with mp4v, but when I changed to DIV3, the small, steady, growth reappeared.
The growth is most evident when I task switch, say opening/refreshing browser windows. Total CPU use stays very low, but the growth definitely pops up then.

P4, 2.6 GHz
Input: 30 fps 320x240
Output: 128K DIV3 UDP multicast

Memory growth: 116 KB over 13 minutes.

xvid encoded avi problems

Postby Alexsource » 07 Oct 2004 01:02

I'm uploading the file and a log of the messages window ([AU]GALERIANS_RION - Movie promo[1D16B663].avi and [AU]GALERIANS_RION - Movie promo[1D16B663].avi.txt) to ftp://streams.videolan.org/incoming/
version: videolan 0.80 test2, 10/06 nightly (it also happens on earlier biulds back to test1...)
Os: Windows XP Pro SP1.
other specs: amd duron 1200+@850Mhz, 256mb ram, SiS 630/730 integrated videocard with latest drivers (32 mb ram shared), SiS 7018 integrated sound card.

The file plays fine, up untill some point, where the video freezes, but the audio keeps playing. This happens at about 2:13 o 2:14. It stays like this for about 3 or 4 seconds, then the video starts playin again, as it never had frozen. looking at the messages windowed revealed a lot of "late frame skipped" errors.

The thing is, that this file plays perfectly fine on WMP and XVid 1.0.1 codecs...No freezing/late frame skipping beheauvior there.
Very weird.

Counting from now, itl take about 40 minutes until the upload is completed ;)

win2k sp4
funny really
when i watch the movies on fullscreen, the taskbar still remains visible.
on the other hand, the vobsub support works flawless for me...
I have the same problem and same OS. The player splits in controls and video window when going full screen and the taskbar doesn't disappear.

Hi,

Ive been using vlc for under a year now, and have recently bought a Nebula DigiTV card, and am using the DigiTv built in software to broadcast the Transport stream over my network via UDP multicast.

with 0.8.0-test1 and test2 Im able to use vlc to view the transport stream broadcast by the DigiTv server
Im able to view the individual Video tracks and associated audio streams being broadcast, which is absolutely amazing and I believe new to vlc (at least I couldnt get it to work with 0.7.2 ,even after increasing the mtu packet size).

However, I'm having difficulty in the way vlc seems to lose track of the Video and audio track associate with each PMT.

when I select by programme I get the associated picture, but the audio doesn't switch (No audio is output, but checking the audio track option, I then get all audio tracks available on the transport stream and have to have a guess as they all say English).

It would be nice if the Programe dropdown from the navigate section included the description of the channel being broadcast (e.g. BBC News24)

and the audio channel the asscoiated audio track and its description (Nebula broadcasts the Audio Description channel for the 'hard of sight')

I intend to distribute the video to a Media Player by my TV (Roku HD1000 looks an option), and Nebula dont have their own offering as of yet (based on what Ive seen from them, I also suspect its more likely to be proprietary)

Thanks in advance, (Its a killer app btw!) :D

sorry forgot - All Windows XP Pro kit with 100MB LAN

being the usual optimist, Im expecting you to tell me Im not using it properly

just tested a recorded digitv ts file and the bahaviour is the same

To ideo:
The problem is not that the wxwindows plugin is not loading, but rather that you don't seem to have one at all :)
What probably happened is the following: you specified --enable-wxwindows, but the wxwindows headers were not detected by ./configure, and the wxwindows module was ignored (only a warning was displayed, instead of stopping the compilation as it should have done...).

To fix the problem, make sure the wxwindows headers can be found (you can use --with-wxwindows-tree=... for this).

fullscreen hide taskbar

Postby MassMan » 08 Oct 2004 03:04

As someone already pointed out, the taskbar doesn't go away in fullscreen-mode anymore.

That can be sort of fixed if "modules>interface>wxwindows>embed windows in interface" is disabled. Kinda annoying though.

report

Postby Andy » 08 Oct 2004 06:43

using VLC 0.8.0 test 2, Mac OS X 10.3.5, Powerbook 15" 1 Ghz PPC G4

dragging the playhead marker in the vlc controller timeline works fine to change the playhead position, but thereafter using the FF or REWIND buttons revert the playhead to its original position

also, as previously reported, this version has lost the ability to use a second video device (in my case the s-video output from my powerbook) ... the video device menu item is disabled.

keep up the fabulous work. its looking great. equalizer is very nice, and ff/rwd functionality and on screen display is getting much better.

cheers

Mac OS X Kernel panics

Postby LeJeff » 09 Oct 2004 10:40

Using test2 on Mac OS X 10.3.5 gives me kernel panics with any video that is not MPEG1!! :(
All these videos works fine with 0.72.

Here is my config:
- PowerMac G4 2x1.27GHz, 768Mb RAM, Mac OS X 10.3.5, ATI Radeon 8500 screen in thousands colours
- VLC is set to use default output (I presume Aqua, I didn't test OpenGL output).

subtitles...

Postby Alexsource » 10 Oct 2004 23:08

There seems to be some subtitles timing errors with the last 2 builds (07-Oct-2004 23:19 and 09-Oct-2004 23:18), they don't sinch up well and go faster than they should. It's like, video and audio was plating at 1.00 and subtitles were at 1.1 or 1.2 or something. When fast forwading to the middle of the movie, the subtitles that where on screen were about 1 minute ahead. When reverting to 01-Oct-2004 23:18, subtitles started working fine again. This is with and xvid encoded .avi + .srt
Some divx 3 and 5 encoded avis +srts i tested worked allright.... (all files have fixed ratio mp3 audio, i think)
I tested an ogm xvid+vorbis+subtitles streams and it worked fine too.
Some other .avi xvid+mp3 and .srt i tested also worked fine...
This is on a xp pro sp1 box. My full specs are on page 3 ;)

hmmm, just one thing: DVD menu support seems to get worse every test release of v0.8

test1 did show the main menu of the star wars dvds right (it's equal which one you take - episode i-ii and episode iv-vi) but got anything else wrong

test2 doesn't even get the main menu right. the overlay display parts of other clickable regions etc

Hauppauge PVR-250

Postby dmasys » 13 Oct 2004 01:45

Firstly, congratulations on a great app!

I've been using 0.7.2 under Windows, to stream live TV directly from my Hauppauge PVR250 to Xbox based clients running Xbox Media Center. This has been running perfectly well (except I can't also view the streams on my Windows XP PC - but that's another story...)

However, when I try this beta, it crashes out as soon as you click the final 'OK' button to start streaming - all of the rest of the settings are the same as before - any suggestions?

Cheers
