Can no longer watch/record Twitch streams

Yeah ok. So it turns out that it works with the VLC YoutubeDL plugin, but not with the VLC Lua script. That's for unrestricted streams.

Age-rated streams don't work either way, probably because some authentication is necessary.

still nothing? when I watch Twitch streams in 1080 my neighbours keep complaining about the noise my intel cpu fan makes pls help

also, I've tried with non age restricted streams too, same deal: the programs tries to open the stream for about 2 or 3 seconds and then gives up

It seems that YoutubeDL is no longer able to play Twitch either.

Realistically, it's the same problem as with YouTube: it will only work until the next change breaks the script, and then you'll have to update the script (assuming an update was made).

The original author of the VLC Twitch plugin has more or less officially gave up on it.

It needs a new interested maintainer, or the feature will have to be dropped permanently.

no need to take the option out cause you can use it to watch Youtube streams still

The YouTube parser is still maintained and is not going away for the time being. Though it will keep on breaking as the site gets updated, and ultimately I'd hardly be surprised if it became untenable sooner or later.

It's only the Twitch parser that's currently unmaintained. But I'm told Twitch works fine with external VLC YoutubeDL plug-ins, or with the official VLC YoutubeDL plug-in in VLC 4.0.

That is one of them. There are several YoutubeDL plug-ins. You've linked mine which is a backport to VLC 3.0 of the "official" VLC 4.0 plug-in. I know there are others, though I don't have the URLs on top of my head.

I was able to solve this problem months ago by downloading and pasting the twitch.lua file into the plugins folder, but now the problem is back. When I try to open a twitch stream with VLC I get this error:

Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'https://www.twitch.tv/streamer'. Check the log for details.

but there's no log... Any help will be appreciated

EDIT: no idea what happened but it seems to be working now, and even better than before. If it was a hotfix by the devs then thanks!
