VLC for tvOS - Empty Folder over SMB

I am having exactly the same problem trying to connect to the shares on my Windows 7 PC.

VLC sees the PC but when I try to connect it displays "Empty Folder". I have the problem whether I try connect as a user (without a password) or with anonymous login.

I have no problems connecting to my Synology NAS.

I would like to thank the team for bringing VLC to Apple TV. It doesn't work for me yet, but I'm sure the problem will be fixed soon.

Hi yes my VLC on Apple TV is also showing empty folders .I use mac 10.11.2 .I hope there are plans to support that someday

I have Tested it with different Timecapsule settings (user/ Account/ password only) but everytime there is the empty folder. with VLC for iPad/ iPhone it is possible to Access The SMB Share on the Timecapsule

Maybe this is caused by a small typo I found while building VLCKit with Xcode and had a look at the warnings.
I have submitted a patch for this one, but unfortunately git-send-mail has authentication problems with my iCloud mail account (using two-factor). So I sent the patch file manually to vlc-devel. I hope it gets accepted this way

The symptom of the typo would be, that fileURLs are initialized with a nil object, and therefore items won't be available. But I assume this would only cause to fail starting such streams.

No, the issue you fixed is not related to this issue and in fact not even present on the 2.7 branch we used for the initial release.

There are issues in the underlying libDSM library we used to discover, browse and stream from SMB servers. We are confident to have those resolved and the fixes will be in 1.0.2 (as the fixes were too late for 1.0.1).

Glad to know I am not the only one with a Mac(OS 10.11.02) who gets empty folder message when configuring VLC.
Any idea when the issue will be resolved?

Same problem.

Unusable.

connected to a NAS box using username and password over SMB.
Blank folders

Connected using UPnP
No audio on most files
The file that is being selected isnt the one that is being played (eg you select the dora the explorer and get robocop ultra violent edition).

Not really usable yet guys.



Infuse and plex players are a lot more stable at the moment and play more videos.


Got further than the windows RT version that was promised and never appeared but still not good.

Get an "empty folder" message with a basic SMB share using OS X El Capitan and most recent iOS release (9.2) when is a patch being released?

Since version 1.0.1 of VLC for Apple TV was approved last night, we were able to submit a patch for review today. Now, it depends on Apple to approve it - typically by the end of the week or early next week. Regrettably, there is not much we can do to speed-up the process.

With version 1.0.1 i can connect now with smb to time capsule disk.
User:Guest
Password: i leave empty
after Save and connect to time capsule disk and can see all the folders and play video files.

Go to tvos appstore/purchaces check your apps,click vlc and you see Update click and download new version

At greek tvos appstore,vlc new version is online from afternoon.

Same with me,it's a bug from tvos.
Go out from appstore,return to home page and you see vlc updated.

I did, still showing empty folder. So if it did update, it didn't fix anything for me.

I have time capsule 3TB hard disk not the latest model.Before update it was empty folder for me too.With 1.0.1 it works now.I don't know how to help.
You have enable Guest access with airport utility to time capsule?

Mines just the hard drive of my iMac. File sharing is on.

Latest OSX. I wasn't aware I needed to install anything. The machine shows up in the list, but I get the Empty Folder screen.

Installed that. Now I see the Movies folder, which is filled with AVIs, but VLC shows it empty.
