VLC - No audio through external audio card

Hi, this is slightly late, but in case somebody is still tuned up to this thread, I'd like to say that I experience the exact same problems with a different device, namely EE-MU Tracker pro by Creative, also on a Mac machine. Seeing that you guys had problems half a year ago and it's still here, I'm starting to be pessimistic. Cheers, R.

I'm wondering if there has been any solution to this issue?

I recently purchased the tascam US-200.
VLC is the only media player that WONT play any sound through the external soundcard. I have to change it to internal speakers.

Previous to this I used an m-audio external sound card with no issues.

I'm wondering if its because of a conflict with VLC, Mac Lion and the tascam, and their tascam need to bring out new drivers for it?
Because when I go into system preferences/sound it does say that the select device does not have output/input controls.

I tried soundflower, but it has crashed a few times when using it.

Bump: I have the same issue with my freshly installed TASCAM US-144 on my Mac with OS X Mountain Lion. My guess is that it might have something to do with sampling rate conversion, as the tascam seems to run in 24 bit resolution mode per default (and I can't seem to change it through the mac system preferences) and sampling rate settings seem to be suspiciously absent from the audio menu as far as I can see.

I am having the same issue with a Tascam US-122MKII. It works OK in Windoz 7 under VMWare Fusion.

I reached out to TEAC Europe GmbH and they are going to borrow me a US-144MKII for testing purposes. So, I'm quite confident to add support for it to VLC in a next release.

The Tascam US-122mkII is a 2 channel device.

@bombadil: This is the same issue indeed. Would you mind checking out a 2.1 nightly build (see Nightly Build of VLC) and test if it works for you?

Since I'm running the soundcard on a Core Duo (32-bit) iMac I'm unable to test the 2.1 nightly as it seems to be 64-bit only.

Worked around the problem though, by using SoundFlower as balki pointed out further up here that was possible.

Just to let you know, I have confirmed that the 2.1 nightly allows my Tascam US-1800 interface to play audio!

I have been experiencing the same issue.. now that I have a new PC, i know it's not my old PC.. I'm using a Behringer U-Phoria UMC404 HD ..
I've done all the troubleshooting I could find online, including this list: https://windowsreport.com/vlc-audio-not-working/

Audio comes through just fine with Windows Media Player.. but no audio for VLC.. i've went through every output mode manually..
I'm just about at wits end on this, I have files I need to play that won't play on WMP.. and VLC won't play the audio.. might be about time to look for something new, sadly enough.
