The log gets stuck in a loop, but here is a short copy & paste sample:

access_directory debug: opening directory `C:\Users\xxxxxx\Documents\NZB Downloads\!RnE - 2008.05.01 22.52.26 - [Live-eviL]_The_Daughter_of_Twenty_Faces_-_03_HD_(h264,aac)_[7A24613A].mkv'

Any MKV file placed in the "NZB Downloads" directory will not play back. The same MKV placed in "Documents," on the Desktop, or in a folder inside "NZB Downloads" does play just fine.

I give up...

It seems to be doing that when I fullscreen. but I did as you suggested and no real difference. Still have the start bar on Fullscreen.

posthaste: For some reason it tries to open the whole directory. I have no clue why it does that (unless you use Open Directory...). In my tests I can play stuff from C:\Users\xxxxxx\Documents\NZB Downloads without issues but I don't have any news group downloaders installed that might do some tricks for that directory.

Been using vista on both of my vista machine for almost a year now. I get great performance without any modification to the configurations. The only problems is, and I mean ONLY, is that sometimes when it moves onto the next file in the playlist, I get a popup saying VLC has stopped working and windows have to close it and I am forced to close it. Is there a solution to this?

Try nightlies. The error means that VLC crashes and without knowing what causes VLC to crash, I can't suggest any better solution.

Howdy,

When I run VLC 0.86c (latest download) on Vista with a Nivida 7900GTS - I have problems when I use full screen.

The Start Bar of Windows draws in FRONT of VLC.

I have only one screen, DVI connected, 1080p TV at native 1080p resolution.

Anyone else having this problem with the Windows Start Bar not hiding?

Thank you.
I have the same problem but I am using an ATI HD2600XT with 1 DVI output to 1080p monitor and windows Vista Business.
This happens also when I am using powerdvd deluxe. All videos are playing smoothly though when I am
using Windows Media Player.
I am having the same problem and I didn't see a solution. I has a Geforce 8500 with Vista x64 home premium and until reciently the VLC worked properly but I can't figure out how to fix this. It also opens 2 windows in full screen, one is the show the other is just the VLC player with nothing on it. but if I take it out of Fullscreen it goes back to 1. I been trying to exorcise this demon for weeks now.

Any help would be a much needed relief.
Thanks Rik
I'm having the same problem with vista ultimate x86 SP1. Playing vlc on fullscreen but the start menu bar is still appearing. Any solutions so far to prevent the start menu bar from appearing?

that thread has more discussion but no solution. I have Vista Home Premium and I don't have any full screen issue so I don't have a clue what causes it.

I have been trying to watch short videos made with my new camera (not a video camera). I have Windows Vista Home Premium. The files are .MOV
The video plays intermittently and usually freezes part way through. The audio is generally fine. I have the VLC media player 0.8.6.i Janus (wxWidgets interface).

Hello I just downloaded the latest version for window yesterday. My OS is windows Vista Home premium. When I playback a TS file (teletext subtitle), subtitle just flashed out for less than a second and gone long before the related speech ended. Then the next speech started and the related subtitle flashed out and gone for less than a second. Is there any way to keep the subtitle staying on the screen until the related speech ended? Or is there anything wrong that say I should reinstall the software or install other software, say powerdvd etc?

Either the subtitle timings are horribly wrong, or there is bug in subtitle parsing, is there some sample file that you could share?

The subtitle flashed and gone. Look like some sort of discontinuity and is too quick that is unable to read. Would this message help? and any solution? I used DVBViewer to record this .ts file and subtitle playback ok with DVBViewer, EXCEPT always one sentence faster than the actual audio and it is a known difficulty for them, no way to delay it. Someone posted in their forum saying VLC could fix this timing issue. But then I got this flashing subtitle issue. Is there any way to stream/transcode it to make subtitle staying on the screen until another come. I don't mind the case where subtitle stays on screens forever when the scripts have no subtitle until get replaced by the script with subtitle.

I've got the freebox and there is a code that allows to watch french channels. I got another computer wich runs with XP and there was no problem till I damaged my graphic card. Can't use that computer anymore because there's no sound.

ANyway under Vista, VLC stops atfer 60 seconds and I don't know what to do.I've downloaded VLC several times because I can't watch tv on it anad the problem remains.

Please Help me!!!!!

Thanx to y'all.

simon_newbie: best way to fix DVB recordings is to use ProjectX to demux them and mux together using for example TMPGenc (File-> MPEG Tools...). Also if you haven't tried VLC nightlies, you could do that.

I have recently bought a computer with Windows Vista Home Premium. Last night I installed the newest version of the VLC Media Player. AVIs played fine last night, but when I've tried to play one today, I have sound but a no picture. Just a black screen. I've reinstalled the player, but I'm still having the same issue. Any help would be appreciated.
