Having a few file format problems with VLC.

Postby emarkay » 07 Feb 2007 21:37

I have switched to Ubuntu Linux, and having used VLS for years in Window$, I am encountering some problems.

I dislike most other Linux players as not fully CODED enables or just not featured enough, so I am hoping for success (again) with VLC.

I am 95% sure I used VLC to play my SWF files, like this one (after downloading it):

VLC now loads and the progress bar 'zooms' across the menu and then nothing. My downloaded .FLV videos do not play either.

ALSO:
A few of my .WMV videos play the audio, but no video window appears, whereas other play fine.
A few of my .AVI videos do nothing but load the main menu, whereas other play fine.
My .RMVB and .RM do not nothing either. ( I think I never used VLC for these, but just confirming).

All other formats I have play fine.
Thanks for any assistance!

this is because you use a too old version of VLC. Use 0.8.6 to repair FLV wmv support

Any suggestions?

Your ubuntu distribution should give you a newer one.

I dont know if you want to go through all the work on this or not, but you might try to install flvtool2 and have it redo the metadata for the flv file. You will need to install ruby to get flvtool to work though.
