No sound when playing avi in vlc

my system is osx v10.2.8

Im trying to play a large avi file and getting no sound, here's the error message i get:

coreaudio: failed to set buffer size: [nope]


does any1 know whats wrong? ty

THANK YOU GOD!!! I HAVE FOUNDETH THINE SOLUTION! YAY! (went into advanced pref and modules then audio output, core audio and changed audio device from 0 to 1.
