Will VLC have Disable Aspect Ratio option?

Postby ktsamy » 01 Jan 2012 15:43

Will VLC have the option to disable aspect ratio completely.?
Most of the players are having this option. But, VLC lags behind all of them. From a long time all members are requesting this option. But, There is no response from developer team. If I set aspect ratio to my resolution if I exit full scree mode to maximize i will lose my video aspect ratio as it is fixed to screen resolution not to window size.
Another thing is De noise. I have been using Daum Pot player more than 6 months. Apart from 3D De noise & Gradual De Noise It provides pixel shader de-noise filter. It displays most of the low quality videos better than VLC.
VLC is just updating its library and fixes some UI bugs and some major bugs and releases the new versions rather than concerning about Video quality & User Satisfaction.
I thing VLC is losing it users gradually to others.

Numbers seems to show the opposite.

Disabling aspect ratio is quite wrong, since a movie has a defined aspect ratios; anything else will break the movie. Moreover, you can fix the aspect ratio in preferences.

There is a new denoise filter in VLC 1.2, you should try it.

If "Disable Aspect Ratio" means "Custom Aspect Ratio", then it is not a bad idea.
Sometimes it is necessary to change wrong DAR of a movie, but predefined ones are not suitable, too. Of course "you can fix the aspect ratio in preferences" but look at the way it has to be done: to go to preferences, to find the option, to input the ratio that you do not know exactly, to save settings, to restart the player and hopefully a result is as desired.

Please make 2 hotkeys (+/-) to adjust video (wider/narrower) on the fly, so visually you can find easily the correct AR.

>> Video effects control panel: +PADDING +Custom AR
If you make 2 more hotkeys (+/-) for bottom-padding at least, then you can easily get subtitles under the video.
CROPPING, PADDING, Custom AR on the fly cover all usual needs in picture transformations and VLC could be much closer to other more user friendly media players.

That's different, and you might want to add that in trac.

Most of the users never likes the black borders. I can set my custom aspect ratio. I will not not get the black borders. But,If exit from full screen to maximize...? Then, I have to change my aspect ration by calculating pixel values.
Let me come come to your point, Videos having the defined resolution. Then, Why should we need full screen zoom. Because we want see it in the entire window. No body will like some black borders occupying the windows. Like that only it is the user requirement to stretch the video to window size.
If the user likes to watch in entire screen what is wrong in it everything is wrong including pixel shaders, filters
