iTunes VLC Plug-in

Postby Guest » 17 Jul 2004 04:48

I dont know if people are going to completely hate me for this suggestion, but I'd like to be able to use mutli-channel sound with iTunes, which is something that VLC can do. How hard would it be to make a VLC plug-in for iTunes to allow iTunes to use multiple channels?

That's not hard, but as good as impossible. You'll have to compile VLC including all it's modules and plug-ins as a QuickTime Plugin, which is not possible ATM and would require huge amount of work. You should use simply VLC when you want to play multiple channels.

Btw. since version 4.6 of iTunes you are also able to multiple channels with it, but you have to deaktivate all sound filters, push the volume to the max, etc., etc. Please have a look at this document for details.

Maybe I need more experience with VLC, but it seems that the music playlist interface isnt very nice compared to iTunes. All I really want to do is to mirror the front two channels to the back two speakers. That's not really surround sound, but it's the effect that I'd like. It'd also need to be analog out since the speakers I'm using are analog.
