Load video file but do not start playing

I would like to be able to load a movie from file without having it start playing.
It should just "pause" waiting for my command to start playing.
Have I overseen some way of doing this?
Or would it be possible to write an add-in that could do this?

Pause @ start - a simple extension script. You just need to activate it manually in VLC menu.
