VLC as DLNA Media Server for MAC, Windows, Linux

Postby jakenightly » 11 Jul 2012 05:22

Requesting that VLC be developed as a DLNA Media Server for the various supported platforms. I use VLC on Mac for all of my video needs at present and it is widely considered to be one of the most essential tools for any Mac.

More and more frequently now people are using computers to stream video directly to DLNA enabled televisions and other devices. At present I use PS3 Media Server (using Mencoder) to stream video to my PS3 and can browse directly from my PS3 to my computer and stream using PS3 to stream to my TV. PS3 Media Server is a really great product but it struggles with some media formats, and it's a separate application. I'd love to be able to use VLC for all video operations, including streaming to DLNA enabled devices.

It would be awesome if VLC could be configured as a DLNA Media Server to stream to DLNA enabled devices like PS3, Xbox and televisions. :D

Great job VLC team!
