streaming http on a port other than 8080

for some reason I can connect to the stream on my LAN, but even though I have forwarded 8080 in the router to the machine hosting the stream, I cannot connect to it from outside the router. When I try to use a different port (8000) i get this:

what else can I try?

certainly there is no intrinsic problem going over a port other than 808 - I have used 8081 8082 8-78 etc. etc...
The only reason I HAVE to use 8080 if I am checking my stream at work is our ??!!**? firewall - I will start a stream tonight on 8080 and post a link here with the windows (sorry:( ) batch file I use to set up the stream
