Solved: "late picture skipped" with some DVB Channels

Hi,

I recently searched high and low for the solution to a problem. After two days of tracing through the VLC sourcecode, I found a solution that I'd like to share:
Some DVB-Channels on the ASTRA Satellite are encoded in a way that causes VLC to display a picture that stops every few seconds, accompagned by
[00000650] main video output warning: late picture skipped (54039)
[00000650] main video output warning: late picture skipped (14108)

The stream is read from the network, via UDP multicast.

The transponder in question is the german ProSieben/SAT.1-Transponder. (tp 82, 12051 V, on astra 19.2E.)

One can fix this problem by setting the parameter --udp-caching to something like 800 (default 300).

Technical background:
This transponder is multiplexed in a way that one GOP is inside one single PES. There is only one PTS timestamp for the whole GOP. (Around 300kBytes, 480ms). The default buffering for this type of stream is not enough.
