MOV playback issue with VLC - audio fine but video hangs

Greetings-

I have run into an issue where VLC is not playing certain .MOV files. They start fine and the audio continues without error, yet the video gets stuck in one spot. I have tried this same file on another computer and was able to duplicate the issue on both version 2 and version 2.1 of VLC. We are able to play the same file successfully in QuickTime player on both computers. I have found several mov files that do this and I have read other reports on the internet of similar experiences without a resolution, so it would appear the issue is VLC.

I have uploaded a sample mov if you would like to test and share your experiences. At this point, the only thing I can think to try is an older version of VLC. Maybe this is a bug in a newer version and I will post back with the results. Is there a setting or modification (Codex update) that I can change in VLC to make all MOV files work? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I am having the same issue. I have .mov files created on a mac in Final Cut Pro that the video hangs, and lvc becomes unresponsive. The files are rendered in High Definition. Any assistance would be appreciated as this project is to be installed at an art gallery next week.

I don't see this issue in version 1.1.9. But it happens in version 2.0 and 2.0.1

I am having the same issue with .avi files. I did not notice it as much with 2.0 but just upgraded to 2.0.1 and it happens often. If I restart VLC it seems to help for a bit.

Edit: Reverted to 1.1.9 and it works great.

I'm having the same problem with distorted video quality playing back .MOV in VLC 2.1.0 nightly build. Unfortunately this 2.1.0 is the only version that will stream RTSP well so im stuck using quicktime which blows

screen shot of the distorted video? It's nothing special just take my word for it the video becomes distorted in a couple of places during the short 10 second clip. not sure what a screen shot will show? The video is shot with a Cannon 1400si which is a High Def video.

Not sure what you mean by another video output. If i play a avi file or other format like mpeg/mpg the video plays back fine. It is just .mov files when the distortion happens. If there is something i should change that you think would help please let me know.

I'm having the same issue as the original poster.

Try another video output module:

And/or disable/enable GPU acceleration:

You can also try to enable or disable some video options such as Overlay and/or Hardware YUV -> RGB conversions.

I was having the same issue with .MOV Apple Quicktime movie but got a FIX!

Tools > Preferences > Input and Codecs > (Check) Use GPU accelerated decoding
Restart VLC

Ubuntu 12.04/VLC 2.0.3
