No. My response was to point that out. Then when another two people completely ignored the response (not even bothering to ask clarifications, you know), I wrote the same thing again in larger fonts. And, for those who don't understand version numbers, I even added that, well it is more recent than 1.1.1.

And no big news here. When a bug is fixed in the latest develoment version, the bug is fixed. Over. That's how our bug tracker has worked for years, and that's how the whole software industry works internally. The project simply cannot make a full blown release for every fix that is delivered (I count already 220 individual changes since 1.1.0). And even if we could, what do you guys would think if we had the auto-update kicking every 4 hours (220 changes in 35 days), and how do you think the download servers would cope?

I've changed the youtube.lua file and now it works.
I can watch youtube videos on VLC.

Now how do I save them?
If I convert them, all I get is a ~200 byte file.

OK, so I was getting this problem today, so instead of making a topic about it, I just tried looking it first if the bug was reported and saw this. ^^
did the youtube.lua file thing and it worked! ^^
Now, I did this differently since I have Windows Vista so I will tell on how I did it:

1st was to look for the file. I just pressed on Start, then "Computer", then to "Local Disk (C:)" and then I copy and pasted ' youtube.lua ' in the top right corner of the screen. (for quick results, go to the "Program Files" folder when searching the " youtube.lua ".

2nd was to Open the youtube.lua file with WordPad. then I just deleted everything in the document and copy and pasted all from the new text that was posted here

3rd was that Before saving, to Right-click the file 'youtube.lua' and press on "Properties". Then from there I went to the "Security" Tab, clicked on "Edit", press on Continue to the pop-up window, and then checked the "Full Control" in 'User' (will say your username of your PC) and clicked OK.

4rd was the simplest one and it was to go back to the WordPad Document and click on "Save". and close it.


Hope this was useful for Win Vista (and probally Windows 7 users) to not get the "access denied" or "can't save" message when editing "youtube.lua" in Wordpad or in any other text editing program.

Hello all. I wrote a shell script for mac to sort of automate the process of opening youtube vids in vlc. I call it 'YouSuck'; inspired by 'rtmpsuck' and my general feelings towards flash performance on my mac. I'm extremely new to shell scripting so this is anything but perfect, however it does make the process a little easier. Any tips or edits are welcome. Also you may need to install ngrep if you don't already have it.

I'm using VLC 1.1.11, and am getting the following error when trying to watch Youtube videos :

File reading failed:
VLC could not open the file "www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPXD4ipoMQ8".
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL '://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPXD4ipoMQ8'. Check the log for details.

I've tried the lua patch, but, that didn't seem to fix it

I am slightly hard of hearing, so, VLC would be a lifeline for me as so many Youtube videos are so quiet.

Can anyone help?

I appreciate that you like to use VLC, but you don't need VLC to increase the volume. You just need to adjust the volume knob on your PC speakers.

I'm assuming anyone who uses VLC to boost video volume does so for the same reason as me: because even with system, application, youtube, and speaker volumes all the way up, some videos are still barely audible due to improper mixing when the video was made. VLC allows you to bring the volume up to 200% making these videos audible.

I'm running into playback issues with VLC 2.0.8 Twoflower for only SOME videos. In my case VLC is able to determine the name of the video, but not play it. An example of a problem is with http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9V85OykSDT8. The error I get in VLC in level 2 (debug) logging mode is

Most videos play just fine. I'm not entering the URL any differently into VLC.

200% is not very much compared to what you can do with the mixer or speaker amplifier...

Obviously if I had external speakers this wouldn't be a problem. Like I said, I have the volumes all the way up in the Windows mixer and I have the volume all the way up on the YouTube player. I know what I'm doing. Bringing to the volume up in VLC to 200% doubles the gain. I've used this method for numerous videos when dealing with my little built-in speakers.

THAT ASIDE, I'm looking for a resolution for the fact that VLC is unable to play some YouTube videos. Did you try it for yourself with the URL I provided?

...this video doesn't work, cuz format 45 is effed up on YouTube (I don't know how or why). Format 45 (aka &fmt=45, or &itag=45) is the 1st listed format for this video, by being listed 1st, it's the default one VLC chooses...

This URL doesn't work (explicitly choosing fmt=45)...
