A New VLC Green Screen Problem (Windows Vista, VLC 1.1.11))

Postby DEMOLITION_D » 02 Nov 2011 03:47

I've read every thread there is to read about the whole deal with VLC displaying a green screen where you can only hear audio but see no video. I've done everything that just about everyone has suggested both from this site's archives and many others. Still, the problem persists.

I'm not a tech head but I'm computer literate. So far I've unchecked the overlay option in preferences, change my output source to not only OpenGL but every other option available, and deleted my preferences/font cache and reinstalled VLC around a dozen times now. I've done all of this separately on its own and all possible combinations together. I just cannot seem to shake this green screen.

Some videos work fine mind you. Some don't. What I am trying to play now is a .mkv file with subs (not sure what file the subs are, they are integrated into the MKV). It's an anime.

Someone throw me a bone.

Most likely it is a 10 bit H.264 video that does that. VLC 1.2.0 plays those files. VLC 1.1.x doesn't.

Actually, that problem happens with many 8-bit h.264 video files, under both Windows XP Pro SP3 and Windows 7 64-bit. The same files play fine under vlc 1.1.8 and 1..1.0, though some have pixellation and blocking. The same files play perfectly in mpc-hc, as do 10-bit files.

My friend and I both got rid of vlc 1.1.11; it's way too buggy.
