Audio choppy/glitches in v1.1.5 on XP sp3

Postby gcv » 04 Dec 2010 18:43

After installing 1.1.5 the audio for streams off the web had glitches every few seconds. It didn't seem to matter if the stream was asx or mp3. I uninstalled 1.1.5 and deleted every reference to vlc I could find on the system (Program Files folders and %appdata% folders). I rebooted and ran the install again. rebooted before testing 1.1.5 and it still had glitches in the audio. I didn't know where to make any changes that might help in the vlc preferences but I found the statistics and saw lost buffers. I got the statistics about the lost buffers, uninstalled 1.1.5 and deleted vlc folders. I rebooted and installed 1.1.4 and got statistics for the same sites.

Type: Audio
Codec: Windows Media Audio 2 (WMA2)
Channels: Mono
Sample rate: 22050 Hz
Bitrate: 32 kb/s
It appears that audio buffers keep getting lost for audio in 1.1.5 the lost buffers were 120 for the first 6000 played. The lost count just keeps going up.
In 1.1.4 it started out with 2 lost buffers and never went higher.

In 1.1.5 the lost buffers were 182 for the first 6000 played. The lost count just keeps going up.
In 1.1.4 there were no buffers lost.

My system is Windows XP SP3

I've run several tests of 1.1.5 and then 1.1.4. Listening to streaming audio is choppy in 1.1.5 each time. I haven't tried any video with 1.1.5. I saw others reporting choppy video/audio and didn't know if lost buffers might be the problem for them also. I'll stay with 1.1.4 until I see an update to 1.1.5 before trying again.
