Background sound but no voices

I downloaded an avi file. When I play it with VLC 1.01 it shows image and plays (background) sound but it does not play the voices.
I also tried it with windows media player. First no sound at all but when I downloaded the AC3filter codec there was sound including the voices (but still no voices with vlc player).

Audio information on vlc is:
codec: a52
Channels: 3F1R

Is it possible that vlc can use the AC3filter too so it also playes the voices or is there another solution?

3F1R AC3 audio doesn't work correctly in VLC. And no, you cannot use AC3filter in VLC.
