VP6 codec possible problem

Postby solarstone » 23 Jul 2009 13:49

i extracted from 1 game VP6 short movie clips
converted to AVI but they still use On2 VP6 codec

1. Media Player Classic run them well, VLC also but VLC always reports broken file and offers repair (even if its not broken)

2. clips are short, one is 30 sec, another is 2 minutes long
MPC memory usage is RAM: 23MB, VM: 18 MB
VLC memory usage is RAM: 30MB, VM: 40MB, and then both start to grow fast and hog down
RAM and Vitual Memory untill program crashes

- my max RAM and VM are 1GB (each), when VLC goes beyond this, program crashes and sends info online of crash

i can upload those clips for VLC team if it is necessary for some check/testing :P

1. Are you sure it isn't broken? Divfix++ or Virtualdub should fix AVI files.

2. Yes please, upload a sample if you can.

DivFix++ finds no errors upon "Check", upon "Fix" it gives "Output file write error",
then creates new "fixed" file, but VLC again has memory problem

VirtualDub cant open file, it reports error of missing decoder even if VP6 decoder is installed
(separate decoder downloaded from free-codecs.com) so cant check via vdub...

BUT when converted to XviD(.avi) from VP6(.vp6) and played in VLC, both RAM and VM stayed on 30MB with no growth

link contains original .vp6 file (up test were done on .avi but still vp6 codec)
http://uploading.com/files/RHA6PJIB/pensieve1.vp6.html

both .avi and .vp6 containers with use of VP6 codec have memory problem in VLC

OS: Windows XP Pro SP3
