[bug] dual monitor - picture location

Postby Photoblaz » 01 Feb 2009 21:25

Could please anyone confirm the bug with 0.9.8a version on a dual monitor display, when I make video full screen size on monitor Nr.1, the picture allways jumps onto monitor Nr.2.
This starts to happen just after upgrade.

Thank you!

Try this:
Tools - Prefrences - Video
On the right you will have Display Device.
I do not have dual monitors, but it should be changable to something like this: Device 1, Device 2 or Device 0, Device 1

So it has to be set on Device 0 or 1 depends how it is written there, save it, and restart VLC.

Under Tools, Preferences, Video, Display device I cannot select anything. Possible is just Default selection.

I couldn't get VLC 0.9.8a to full screen on my CRT TV (monitor 2) until I found this info: http://jbopensrc.wordpress.com/2008/04/ ... g-monitor/
It relates to a previous version but I figured out how to get VLC 0.9.8a to do what I wanted by reading that "how-to".

Here is what I did to get full screen to "stay" where I wished -

In preferences select "all" on the lower left hand side.
Expand the "Video" settings on the left hand side (click on the "+" box next to "Video"
click on "DirectX"
Check the box marked "Use hardware YUV->RGB conversions"
Select the display you wish to use from the drop down menu (across from "Name of desired display device").
Save your settings.

Worked for me. Now videos open in my second monitor (CRT TV) and when I select Full Screen or double click the video stays within the second monitor (unlike before when it Full Screened on my main monitor).

Hope that helps.

FYI I have noticed that when not in full screen the video playback window doesn't like to be moved to my main monitor, it jumps back to my second monitor (the one I selected for full screen usage). That's not a problem for me since I only want video playback on my second monitor. Just a heads up.

Select Display Device won't appear until you select "DirectX" output.

And yes it is a bug in 0.9.8a

I was almost gonna give up on VLC 0.9.8a until I found the fix.

Thnx everyone,
I tried advices, but the problem is still not solved. From monitor Nr1 fullscreen jumps to monitor Nr2 and it's not possible to move it to monitor Nr1.
I think it's really a bug and I hope it will be solved in next release.

Thnx everyone,
From monitor Nr1 fullscreen jumps to monitor Nr2 and it's not possible to move it to monitor Nr1.
I totally forgot to add one of the steps (#3) Sorry about that!

1. In preferences select "all" on the lower left hand side.
2. Expand the "Video" settings on the left hand side (click on the "+" box next to "Video")
3. ---> Expand the "Output modules" settings (click on the "+" box) <---
4. click on "DirectX"
5. Check the box marked "Use hardware YUV->RGB conversions"
6. Select the display you wish to use from the drop down menu (across from "Name of desired display device").
7. Save your settings.

I had the same problem until I did the above. Yes it is a bug. A bug that can be overcome if the above fix. Again I'm sorry I left out the step required to get you where you needed to go.

When you are at step 6 it should look like this:
Image
Notice the expanded video and output modules menu, with "Name of desired display device" drop down menu selections.

Please try the above steps again. Good luck!

whats the point

0.9.6 works fine and there is no reason to upgrade when it is a problem like this to deal with

I have 2 monitors also and I have tried all the steps but I cant get it the way it was in 0.9.6 so I will stick with that until it gets fixed

why even bother, its not like the changes are worth it http://www.videolan.org/developers/vlc/NEWS

Changes between 0.9.6 and 0.9.8a:
---------------------------------

Security update:
* Fixed buffer overflow in Real demuxer (SA-0811, CVE-2008-5276) - who uses this?

Bunch of small bugfixes. - (and added one as well)

0.9.9 will fix this... How many times do I have to repeat it?

VLC 0.9.8a was my first foray with VLC (late comer) and I was able to get it to do what I want so I never needed to DL the "older" version.
