0.9.2 Dual Monitor Full Screen

Postby Aqualung » 25 Sep 2008 21:01

Here's something funny about maximizing the latest VLC release (0.9.2) to one screen when running a dual monitor setup: the controls pad shows up split between the two monitors. Is that supposed to happen that way? Or is it supposed to show up in the middle-bottom of the screen running VLC?

How about 0.9.6? Any progress in fixing this bug? Should I bother installing 0.9.6?

You can move the panel and it will be saved.

Yes, but then when you move VLC to another monitor the panel will still remember its previous position, hence will, again, show up where you don't want it. It looks to me that the panel window coordinates have been specified in absolute (that is, relative to the desktop), instead of being specified relative to the VLC window. That does not matter in single monitor scenarios, but it makes a hell of a difference in multiple monitor configurations. (See also this thread: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=52562.)

I tried 0.9.9 and full screen on the secondary monitor works except that it'd switch back to the primary monitor again when the first file ends and the second file on the playlist begins.

I"m having a similiar issue with dual monitors. when I try to fullscreen vlc on my (extended desktop) second monitor, it automatically only goes fullscreen on the first monitor. I can, however, go full screen on the second monitor with windows media player classic and have them move back and forth across screens. What's going on?

That should be fixed in 1.0.0 which should have vout recycle when released.

I tried the latest 1.0.0 and my previous problem was fixed.

Although it only works when "Integrate video in interface" option is unchecked. When it is checked, full screen on a secondary monitor doesn't work.

On a separate topic, none of the backward/forward jump hotkeys work. Pressing them just resets the video to the beginning. (1.0.0)

All of these things worked in 0.8. What happened? lol.

Yeah I get the same thing it just jumps to the first monitor when integrated even if I drag it over to the second monitor. And YAY! 1.0.0 fixed the annoying queued video jumping the detached fullscreen over to the first monitor. I'd still rather keep it integrated though, but the queued video jumping back over was way more annoying. In the latest 1.0.0 daily I can use my hotkeys to skip around, though if I use it too much or something the video freezes the control window says "Buffering..." and I can't stop the video the only thing to do is crashing because exiting out won't work when the video's frozen heh.

I was using 0.8.3c or something until recently, I was happy with it.. I only upgraded because during the holidays the easter egg made got some attention in other communities.

I like the improvements I'm seeing in the 0.9-1.0.0 series just some really annoying bugs that probably only bother the 2% that play on a secondary monitor.

1.0.0 isn't stable yet, so it does have few quirks and issues.

I've been having the same problem as some here on the thread. I have my monitor and s-video-connected TV. I think I found a partial solution for those who want to use the current stable release instead of nightlies.

Problem:
VLC plays on the wrong display when in full-screen in a dual display set-up .

Solution: VLC 0.9.8a
1. Place the VLC application window in the display you desire to use full-screen.
2. Quit VLC.
3. Have file present in desired display (folder window containing file is okay).
4. Double click video file.
5. Double click VLC application window to full-screen.

I've tested this on Windows XP SP3 with a NVIDIA GeForce 6200 (94.24 drivers). Different combinations of display/VLC window/file location don't work properly. I admit, this may be pure coincidence on how the solution works, but nonetheless, it works.

Searching the past hour, I see references to Video->Video Device and setting the TV as the default option, but I can't find it in my current version. Hope it helps anyone!

Have to use DirectX output to overcome bug

Postby ERICSPEEd » 02 Feb 2009 00:53

I couldn't get VLC 0.9.8a to full screen on my CRT TV (monitor 2) until I found this info: http://jbopensrc.wordpress.com/2008/04/ ... g-monitor/
It relates to a previous version but I figured out how to get VLC 0.9.8a to do what I wanted by reading that "how-to".

Here is what I did to get full screen to "stay" where I wished -

1.In preferences select "all" on the lower left hand side.
2.Expand the "Video" settings on the left hand side (click on the "+" box next to "Video")
3.Expand the "Output Modules" settings (click on the "+")
4.click on "DirectX"
5.Check the box marked "Use hardware YUV->RGB conversions"
6.Select the display you wish to use from the drop down menu (across from "Name of desired display device").
7.Save your settings.

Image

Worked for me. Now videos open in my second monitor (CRT TV) and when I select Full Screen or double click the video stays within the second monitor (unlike before when it Full Screened on my main monitor).

Hope that helps.

FYI I have noticed that when not in full screen the video playback window doesn't like to be moved to my main monitor, it jumps back to my second monitor (the one I selected for full screen usage). That's not a problem for me since I only want video playback on my second monitor. Just a heads up.

Hi from Brazil.
I use an iMac under Macosx and Windows XP3.

Under Windows XP, mp11 and DVBViewer (that share some parts with VLC) both go full screen in the monitor where the player window is.

VLC .98a under MacOSX does not have this issue.
It opens full screen in the monitor where the VLC window is and fades to black Screen on the other monitors as Quicktime 7.

AFAIK the issue is Windows only. The problem lies in the code which tries to detect correct desktop for the full screen playback.

It seems like version 0.9.8a will open the opposite monitor in fullscreen automatically (whichever the vlc application is in, the other window will open in full screen. Does anyone know how to turn this off so that the second monitor does NOT show in full screen? I've tried the above mentioned settings and it doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Disable overlay video output or make you you don't have video mirroring (NVIDIA) or theater mode (ATI) in use.
