Some suggestions and questions on cloning and second display

Postby breakingdecency » 20 Sep 2008 17:23

Hey everybody,

I'm running a tv connected to my nb and use it watch movies with vlc. I spent some hours searching for a possibility to make vlc do this:

When I start a movie file, a clone of the output video (which is somewhere on the nb display) starts on the tv in FS.

I didn't get to manage this and i dont know if anyone maybe has, but here are some suggestions for some more speficic problems:

1. vlc doesn't remember window positions.
I don't know if it would be a big deal to implement an option for this, but it would solve the whole problem with a click (on user side at least ;P)
You could clone the output, drag one window to the second display and maximize it there once, done. what happens now: you do this and start another file (or the playlist does so), the windows get resetted and reappear on your first screen. (This "reappearing" makes it also impossible to watch some files, eg music videos, on your 2nd screen, even when not cloning. every time a new video starts, it's on the first screen again.)

2. you can't combine the options "clone display" and "output on this display"
so i know there's a way to set a standard display for the output, which does function well. i start a video file and its on fs on the 2nd display.
this would be fine, but i don't watch all my videos on the tv... and the options take some time to set up.
my idea here: an easy accessible option while you play a file. you click it and the video jumps to the 2nd screen, and vice versa.

more to come.

thanks for reading, please post your ideas...

greetings

oh and ps: with vlc's new version, cloning doesnt function at all here :-/
