screen fades out when watching a movie

screen fades out when watching a movie
hello all. well here is my problem, whenever i watch a movie in VLC, if a dark scene plays, VLC, my monitor included, fades out to black until i either move my mouse or a brighter scene plays. ive googled this time and time again and cant seem to find a solution. i must be the only one with this particular problem. Desktop, Windows XP Professional, 2gb ram, AMD Athlon 3800+ 2ghz CPU, NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE
