VLC 2.0.1 subtitle problem

Postby tipszics » 24 Mar 2012 19:10

Hi!
I have a problem with this version of VLC. I want to import a hungarian subtitle, but all the unique hungarian characters show as question marks. I tried to change the codec to Latin 2 it still doesn't work. I changed the default program language to hungarian.

I'd be happy if someone could help me out, because this problem is getting annoying.

Thank you for your help!

The font file is Arial. I don't know if that font is good for Hungarian, or not, but in Word and other writing programs this font properly display the characters.

If that font is wrong, then could you suggest a new one? I don't knw which is more suitable for Hungarian language.

Also this problem didn't happen with the last version I used, which was 1.6 if I remember correctly. This is the first time I'm trying to use Hungarian subtitles with 2.0.1.

Looks like it works now. While the english subtitle was in the same folder as the hungarian, and the 2 was in the movie, the hungarian characters didn't show up. I moved the english sub. to another folder and it works all right now.
Tough I never had this problem in the older versions, I find it annoying. I hope that in later versions this problem will be repaired.

I tried to replicate that bug earlier, but I didn't succeed. Could you share your subtitle files to us?

If there are more subtitles available for a movie, the ones with UTF-8 encoding cause trouble to others non-UTF. Unicode autodetection?

--- EDIT ---
Convert either English subtitles from UTF-8 to ANSI or Hungarian ones from ANSI Windows-1250 to UTF-8. If you are in Windows, then simply open subtitles in Notepad and then: File > Save As... and choose the right encoding there.
