I just arrived here via google as I'm having the same issue.

Is this an issue with Vista? I stayed with WinXP rather than moving to Vista so I don't really know about Vista taskbar behavior.

This issue is existent on all versions of Windows. The developers are well aware of the issue but don't know (last I heard) how to fix it.

This isn´t a VLC bug, it´s a Win 7 Bug. Other players have this problem too.

To fix it go to the exe-file ("C:\Program Files\Videolan\vlc.exe") > right click > Properties > Compatibility > disable display scaling on high DPI setting > OK ;)

Oh? interesting!
Can that be added to the VLC_Windows7 page of the wiki?

Didn't help me yet. Tried changing it to Vista mode... also no help. So far the problem persists. The box for "Disable display scaling on high DPI setting" was unchecked. I checked it. Saved. Restart. No change.

Well I don't get the problem in at least 4 other players (WMP, Realplayer, Quicktime, MPC) so it looks more like a VLC bug :-| . To clarify, if you go into full screen and then try and click the controls i.e. skip, volume etc, one click will bring the taskbar to the front which then obscures the lower half of the controls and you have to click on the video to bring the controls to the front again.

That doesn't fix the problem - there are two other threads with this exact same issue

My only fix was to auto-hide the taskbar. This way it's very difficult to accidentally open it while watching video in full screen. Not ideal, but its a temporary fix.

The display scaling didn't work for me either.

I take it you don't have Windows 7 to test? Is there anything W7 users can do to help find the source of the problem? BTW the software is otherwise great, much faster than all the other players I've tried :) .

You can also put the taskbar on the side then at least it doesn't cover volume when it pops up, but you still have to click the video to make it go away again.

Reproducing and testing is easy, but fixing isn't! :D
