nvidia card color adjustment

Postby MrAngelus » 27 Feb 2010 02:53

I use Media player classic and VLC and I've noticed when I play something on VLC
The video in VLC looks like it needs a contrast/brightness every-time

where as the video in Media player classic looks great with no adjustment all rich and great

I was wondering if there was a setting In VLC to make it look as good as MPC

And i'm using an nvidia video card so if anyone knows of a setting that i have to adjust in there to make VLC look better tell me how to get to it and what to adjust

If anyone has any suggestions let me know

Tools -> Preferences... (set Show Settings to All) and then choosing Video -> Output modules -> DirectX and disable Use hardware YUV -> RGB conversions (save and restart after that).

Question: why isn't this enabled by default? It definitely makes it look better.

i dont know how it looks on ati cards
with nvidia it looks "better" yep
but most videos will be too dark

mpc hc and wmp in w7/vista use evr render per default which is darker too
or u could change in nvidia driver dynamic range from limited 16-235 to full 0-255
or do what vlc_help said

all 3 things above will have nearly the same visual effect
but !
dvds, blu rays, hd dvds (and so there rips too like xvid,divx,...) are created for tv's and not pc screens and expect 16-235 color range !

if u watch videos which are created for pcs for e.g. xxx videos from one of these pay sites then full dynamic range is recommended but not for normal movies

of course its your personal preferences
but in most cases it will be too dark and u will miss details in movies

Because it is way slower.
