Opensuse 11.3, VLC player and "floating point exception"

Postby martine1212 » 05 Mar 2011 20:01

I looked around the forum...but it seems there is not an straight answer to this problem
There are lots of backtracing and bunch of commands, but not a single line saying "this is how you solve it"

Opensuse 11.3
Installed from the command line, it shows the first problem

Additional rpm output:
/var/tmp/rpm-tmp.Iv8GCJ: line 1: 10910 Floating point exception/usr/lib/vlc/vlc-cache-gen /usr/lib/vlc/plugins/
warning: %post(vlc-1.1.7-6.4.i586) scriptlet failed, exit status 136

trying to run it only shows:
VLC media player 1.1.7 The Luggage (revision exported)
Floating point exception

So, how do you solve this??

There is an NVDIA 8800GS installed too.....
32 bit system

Well, nobody bothered to provide any solution...so this seems to be the fix for a 32 bit system running opensuse 11.3

The latest driver from Nvidia causes a conflict..... before intsalling latest NVIDIA drivers VLC player works fine.... after installing the latest NVIDIA driver the floating point exception occurs.

Downgrading to the 256.53 version of the NVIDIA driver does not cause any conflicts...

Hopefully either the guys at VLC or NVIDIA will fix it.....

Too bad the forum was almost useless
