Please give messages.
It's no messages. File is not created after saving playlist :( But when I select file from playlist for playing I have a message- main error: ES_OUT_RESET_PCR called

I compiled VLC 1.0.3 with next options:

Code: Select all

./configure --enable-switcher --enable-shout --enable-dvdread --enable-v4l --enable-pvr --enable-cddax --enable-wma-fixed --enable-shine --enable-id3tag --enable-faad --enable-twolame --enable-real --enable-realrtsp --enable-flac --enable-theora --enable-dirac --enable-libass --enable-release --enable-vcdx --enable-asademux --enable-xvmc --enable-xcb --enable-svg --enable-snapshot --enable-lirc --disable-opengl --disable-sdl --disable-sdl-image --disable-glx --enable-mozilla
And I try compiled VLC 1.0.3 with

Code: Select all

./configure
and have the same - File is not created after saving playlist :( No messages

Also I downloaded VLC 1.0.3 from Launchpad http://ppa.launchpad.net/c-korn/vlc/ubu ... ain/v/vlc/ and have the same problem.. without any changes.. :(

Saving playlists with 1.0.3 works fine here (Debian Sid).

You must be omitting something peculiar about how you're saving the playlist.

I add files to playlist. Then I select- Save playlist as in menu Media. No file created :( I try save playlist in XSPF,M3U,HTML. I try it many times :(

I just tested (again). VLC 1.0.3 release works fine here - Debian. I don't care how many exclamation marks you write. If I cannot see a bug, I cannot fix it.

Hint: EXPLAIN PRECISELY WHAT YOU ARE DOING.

I am not to install a new distro because you feel like it. It works with both VLC 1.0.3 built from source, and official Debian Sid, which makes it look a lot like either Fedora and Ubuntu are faulty, or you are omitting a critical piece of information.

Patch is welcome. I give up.

Well, please ask someone else(from official developers of VLC) to test VLC in Ubuntu 9.10 and Fedora 10.

I don't believe this is a vlc 1.0.3, 1.0.2 issue, merely a qt-config one.

Noting that save playlists works for both 1.0.2 and 1.0.3 on 8.04, but not on a default 9.10 qt-config

The only apparent difference is the interface itself, so suggest installing qt4-config and picking a different gui style ( cleanlooks works here fine, playlists are created and saved

Using the 'save as' dialog

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install qt4-qtconfig
found in system -> preferences -> qt4 settings

bump - I need the same question answered

now the we've proved that there really is a problem with whatever you are doing to those versions for ubuntu and fedora which use gtk - please fix that gtk issue

I refuse to install qt just to fix this one issue!

what if some day you make some horrible bug for linux, would that mean I'd have to install windows to run vlc?

I doubt there are any GTK developers here who would see your request (or act upon it for that matter).

If you refuse to install Qt4, you can't install the VLC GUI anyway. So most probably you have already installed Qt.

the whole QT - isn't that a KDE thing like GTK is gnome's ?

I mean, if I just installed VLC it means I have QT?
well if that is the case I have no problem upgrading an already installed package, but checking with synaptic showed QT not really selected as an installed package, not QT3 nor QT4 so what are you talking about?

[edit]
also lets say I break and decide to give up and install QT anyways, how do I make sure the VLC GUI decides to use THAT instead of anything else?
where can I select such an option?
[/edit]

Hey Remi, i have little experience in GTK and can help to fix this issue if someone is ready to guide me. I have already downloaded the source code and checking out the issue. Will update here if I find anything or need some help.

Don't ask me. I have no experience with GTK. This just looks like a bug in some GTK Qt theme.

I actually got the playlist saving to work in Ubuntu 9.10 no problem. After some research, I learned that in /usr/bin there are 2 files: vlc, and vlc-wrapper. vlc-wrapper is what allows vlc to be run as the permissions warrant.

Step 1: Change your shortcut to:

sudo vlc-wrapper

the wrapper allows vlc to be run as needed, so a playlist file can be saved.

Create your playlist flie as normal, easy as that.

Make sure the settings are correct in your playlist (i.e. shuffle). Once your playlist is created and saved via vlc, you can't actually open it thru the program. To open your completed playlist, right-click on it and open it using vlc.
