disable xvideo output window

Postby mikeize » Tue Oct 07, 2008 8:46 am

Hi there, some but not all of my video files spawn a separate "xvideo output" window. This is really annoying for me, and I can't figure out how to disable it. It only happens recently, since I began using the ASkin skin. I really like the skin, and would like to keep it, so I'm hoping there is another solution to this problem, because it's ridiculous to have 2 open windows when you only need one. Thanks!

Hi, I just signed up to report the exact same problem.

I'm using VLC 0.9.4 with Hardy 8.04, and I can't get video to display in one window. I'm not using any skins and I have it set to the native interface, also I have the "integrate video in interface" option turned on.

It used to work fine in 0.9.3 and 0.9.2, but not here it seems. Also I downloaded the latest version from here, if it helps any:
https://launchpad.net/~c-korn/+archive

And also, does anyone know where I can download an older version? like 9.3 or 9.2? preferably deb, but source would work too. The Ubuntu repos are still stuck at 0.8.6, and that launchpad link I posted only had 0.9.4 as far as I can see.

Same issue. Integrate video with interface selection is ignored.

Using version 0.9.4 on Arch.

Well, it's good to know I'm not alone here :P
I tried adding those launchpad repos, but I'm still stuck with 0.9.3... oh well, not such a big deal I guess since the newer one may have the same problem. I hope if any of you find the solution elsewhere, you'll come back and let us all know the fix.

On 0.9.4, with the Qt4 interface it's normal. There is a race condition or synchronisation problem between the qt intf and X which results in a crash (not that often but it does happen) . See https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/2136 for details

On 0.9.3 with the skins i don't know, but the skins interface module is not really maintained

Wait, what? Ignoring the setting to "integrate video in interface" per the user's preference is "working as intended"?

D'OH! haha, o well. I only just discovered the skins, but some are very nice compared to the spartan (~ugly) default. Unfortunately, the version I have now actually looks worse than the old one I had--like 'blockier' or something.

On 0.9.4 I miss the full screen controller. Do you guys have it? I have separate windows too. Maybe it's connetced?

I'm on Ubuntu 8.04 , QT interface, QT 4.4.x.

Then one can hope it'll be fixed soon. I recieved upgrades today from the korn repo and then there was no full screen controller anymore.

This problem has already been stated, IIRC.+

I went back to regular skin, and now I'm getting the same "feature" with that too!

i am also experiencing this same problem. vlc 0.9.8a, exactly as described previously.
2.6.27-11-generic #1 SMP Thu Jan 29 19:28:32 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux
NVIDIA Driver Version: 180.11
QT 4.4.3
i did not, nor have ever changed the skin from default. everything was fine for a few weeks, and then after opening an m4v file, vlc reported it as an unsupported m4va file. video played, however the audio didnt work. since then ive had the xvideo output window. the exact file was http://blip.tv/file/get/Make-MAKETelevi ... de6472.m4v i do not know if that file specifically caused the issue, or if it was just coincidence. maybe is it reproducible on another machine?
