Screen Option for Capture is Missing

Running Mountain Lion. Just installed VLC again to make sure that the installation was valid. Cannot record from the screen as it is not an option in the Capture Device menu. Only options currently available is 'Built-in iSight' camera.

any ideas? Is there a preference setting that needs to be adjusted?

Current versions of VLC for the Mac do support screen capture on 10.5 and 10.6 only, since Apple removed the needed functionality in 10.7.

We re-wrote that piece of code. However, the new variant does work on 10.6+ only, so it will be part of VLC's next major version which will drop support for 10.5. Sorry for any inconvenience.

If you really need the functionality, get a nightly build from the unstable branch (http://nightlies.videolan.org).

Is it already known that none of the nightly builds available for download work anymore? They either don't have the "screen" capture device option (2.0.5+) or, when they do (2.1.x), vlc crashes immediately upon selecting "screen". If so, is there a known workaround?

There is no work-around but a direct way to have this kind of stuff fixed in reasonable time: file a ticket on http://trac.videolan.org/vlc

Seriously, always create a ticket if you find a bug. It doesn't matter if it will be marked as a duplicate or not as long as we get reports at all.
