Mac OS Lion, VLC screen capture does not work

Postby sisqo » 07 Sep 2011 13:25

It seems that on Mac OS X Lion VLC can't grab a screen.
There is no "Screen" option in File->Open Capture Device->Capture .
When I am trying to launch VLC via the command line by typing "vlc screen://" - it shows a blank black screen.
Is there any solution available to resolve this problem?

Apple completely removed the API to capture the screen and replaced it with something totally different. Until anyone steps up and implements the new one, this feature is not available to Lion users. It remains accessible to Snow Leopard and Leopard users of course.

Any update on this issue, perhaps? Anything being attempted in the nightlies maybe? Thanks!

Same problem, google searched and found this thread, but I found a solution!

Right clicking on the video itself (within VLC, directly on the paused image you want to capture) brings up a menu. At the bottom of this menu is "Snapshot" which saves to the desktop flawlessly. I haven't messed with the video output settings at all, they're on the default config.

VLC 1.1.12, OS X 10.7.2

Hang on... I realized I'm not trying this with a DVD Disc per se. I had ripped the DVD to an ISO, mounted the ISO, and used the "Open File" in VLC to open the VIDEO_TS folder. I wonder if this works with the raw disk?

Yup. You can take snapshots off a regular DVD direct from the disk. This includes screens that Grab renders only as a useless white and grey grid.

Enjoy.

That's a different feature.

On Mac systems prior to 10.7, VLC support to save or stream your screen contents as a video, which is no longer possible so far.
