VLC App for IPAD - Video Out?

HI, I'm new here so please bear with me. I have the VLC app on my IPAD and am able to play movies without any problems on the IPAD. Apple sells an IPAD AV cable to hook up the IPAD to a TV, LCD, etc... My question is, will I be able to run the VLC app on the IPAD to play movies and display them on a large screen TV via the AV cables. I have read some conflicting stories and am not sure of the answer. I don't want to purchase the cable only and find that I may have to return it if it won't work.

I have the iPad and the Dock to VGA original cable and when you display video with VCL app, does not give video signal. But works fine with Photo slideshow and iPod video and video podcast.

I got a video out cable for Christmas to use with my iPhone 4. Apple's itunes feeds video out through it, as does the Netflix app (since around 10/4/10). I would love it (LOVE IT) if you could get VLC to do the same.
