Hi --I'm using VLC 2.2.0 (recently rolled back from 2.2.1) on OS X 10.10.3. Hardware is a late 2014 Mac Mini with max CPU/RAM. I typically play movies through HDMI to a projector. Movies are a variety of formats, mostly .avi, .mkv, .mp4.
The problem is at random times during the viewing of a video the picture (and audio) will freeze for just a moment (<1 second) leaving the entire picture with an embossed effect (eg, https://docs.gimp.org/2.6/en/plug-in-emboss.html). In other words, the picture suddenly becomes silver colored and slowly, over a few seconds, portions of the picture begin to restore. I am not able to reproduce this through specific segments of video. It can happen any number of times through a given time length of video. It seems to occur during cuts, when the picture changes dramatically in color and/or bright <-> dark.
I just selected option to log via syslog but this doesn't look very verbose / comprehensive. Any suggestions on using logging or a debug mode might be helpful.
Additionally, if you've seen this issue before with OS X, with cabling (mine is 20-30' in length), with projectors, etc. I'd be interested.
