Dropouts

Postby cmr » 09 Mar 2009 02:25

I have the problem that VLC plays mp3 files with lots of dropouts. The dropouts get even more when the system is under load, but also annoying enough without load. Playing video files works fine and playing the mp3 files with iTunes also works without dropouts.

Here is someone who has exactly the same problem (in German): http://www.macuser.de/forum/f28/problem ... er-412719/

I have searched for something to adjust the buffer size, but I haven't found anything.

Mac OS X 10.5.6
VLC 0.9.8
MacBook 4,1 C2D 2,1GHz 4GB

You could try increasing the file cache. Open up the Preferences, (tick "Advanced options" or select "All" for "Show settings") and go to:
Input / Codecs >> Access modules >> File

And raise value of "Caching value in ms" (e.g. to 2000 - raise/lower accordingly). Press "Save" and try a file.

Arite.

That was it! Thank you for the quick reply!

The original value was 300, now I've set it to 1000.
